As a structural biology laboratory we study the molecular basis of cellular mechanisms in healthy and diseased state. We use a wide range of biochemical, biophysical and modelling techniques with a particular accent on X-ray crystallography. Besides the fundamental mechanisms, we are also interested in the rational development of new drugs. Our main research topics include the molecular architecture of intermediate filaments as well as structure-based design of novel antibiotics and antivirals. Our research is being carried out in extensive intramural and international collaboration.
