Welcome

The group Biomedical Sciences consists of three faculties, fourteen departments and several research institutes. The teaching activities within the group are organised by the faculty of Medecine, the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the faculty of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The fourteen departments are responsible for research. Key is innovation and cooperation across disciplinary, technological, cultural and geographical borders

Collaboration with research groups of the Group in Humanities and the Group in Exact Sciences are encouraged, as well as collaboration with the University Hospital.

The researchers of the Group Biomedical Sciences carry out their fundamental and applied research in 14 departments

Doctoral School Biomedical Sciences

The doctoral school Biomedical Sciences at the K.U.Leuven consists of 11 PhD programmes. Approximately 100 research units with strong international reputation participate in these PhD programmes. Together they cover a wide range of biomedical research, going from basic science over translational research to clinical sciences.

PhD students perform research under the supervision of a promotor. Throughout their training and research PhD students are encouraged to explore the fundamentals of living systems at all levels - from gene to cell to body and mind - and to leverage that knowledge to improve human health. The training is structured by research programmes that offer an advanced and in-depth learning experience. The programmes are build around training courses, research seminars and other activities aiming at broadening the scientific horizon of he PhD students and allowing them to get first-hand experience with top-level international speakers and cutting-edge research.
